Lura Mae Hansen

Lura Mae Hansen, age 84; passed away on April 3, 2018 at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester.

Lura Bell was born May 16, 1933, in Bokes Creek Township, Logan County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Isabel Emma (Sutherland) and James Wellington Bell. She grew up on the family farm with her two sisters, where she developed a love of the outdoors and a dislike of snakes.

She attended West Mansfield High School (Ohio), being active in cheerleading and watching sports. After graduation in 1951, she moved to Dayton, Ohio where she met the love of her life while working at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. She married Clinton Charles Hansen August 29, 1952 in Rushylvania, Ohio. Soon after the birth of her first son, she bravely moved to Wasioja, Minnesota to help run the Hansen family farm and raise her family. Clint and Lura moved to rural Byron in 1990, where Lura loved to mow the 7 acres of grass and cut down trees. She moved to Cottagewood in 2014.

In 1971 Lura started working as a typist at the West Concord Enterprise and in 1976 became a Senior Clerk at the Dodge County Assessor's office, retiring in 2005.

Lura will be remembered for loving her family, collecting cardinals and red glass, raising Boston Terriers and flowers, traveling, camping, making candy and knitting.

She is survived by her sons Jeff (Susan) Hansen, Steve (Susan) Hansen; daughter-in-law Kay (Bruce) Hansen; grandchildren Carrie (Jerome) Brown, Christian (Naomi) Hansen, Melissa Hansen, Benjamin Hansen, Caleb (Katrina) Hansen, Lucas (Kathleen) Hansen; great grandchildren Gavin, Jocelyn, Grady Brown, Clinton and Henry Hansen, Graham Hansen; sister Glendora Allen; sister-in-law Alvina Hubmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Bruce Hansen; sister Phyllis Hurley; brother-in-laws Wayne Hurley, Ray Allen, David Humber

Generous in death as well as life, Lura donated her body to the Mayo Medical School to further medical education and research. A celebration of her life will be held May 5, 2018 at 3 pm, with visitation one hour before, at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Rochester. Burial will be at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.

A very special thank you goes out to staff at Cottagewood and Heartland Hospice for their loving and kind care of Lura.

Because Lura, a son, and grandchildren have been affected by the eye disease Aniridia, donations to the Aniridia Foundation International or to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, would be welcome in lieu of flowers.
