Concerns were circulating around Byron recently that the Bear mural in the high school gym might be painted over. Someone had seen painting equipment being set up in the gym and wanted to make sure the mural was not destroyed. We contacted school board members who said no such plans had been discussed. Monday, Nov. 19 Supt. Page sent the following email, putting concerns to rest. The mural is not being covered.
Quote from Supt. Dr. Joey Page
"I appreciate and value that our community cares so deeply about our schools. So, I'll get right to the heart of the matter; we yearly refresh the paint in the high school gymnasium. This does not include the bear mural. However, it is important to mention we are finalizing the summer project schedule, which includes comprehensive updates in the middle school gymnasium. It sounds like our preparation has generated some controversy in the community. This was not our intention. I hope this message clarifies the scope of our work at this time. It sounds like this bear has a lot of history and I would like to learn more about its origin. Thank you for your continued care and support of the Byron Public Schools."
