Diane Erickson has joined the Community News Corp. staff as a graphic artist.
With more than 30 years experience she has been putting her expertise to work designing ads for all three of the company's publications, the Byron Review, Star Herald and the recently launched Town & Country Trading Post.
She began her career at the Dodge County Independent in Kasson where she started as a typist. Over the years, she said, the job evolved into a graphic arts position.
"At a smaller paper," she pointed out, "everyone does a little bit of everything."
Even after more than 30 years in the business, Erickson said, she still finds the work exciting.
"I like the creative aspect of it," she said. She tries to convey the ideas of the person she is working with, she said, in a way that is readable and visually appealing.
"I like the customer contact," Erickson said. "I like being able to take an idea and turn it into a result that works for them."
Graphic arts and turning an idea into a creative visual form comes naturally for Erickson who also has an art background.
"I enjoy helping to grow our new publication the Trading Post, being part of a team environment and having the freedom to exercise my creativity and utilize my organizational skills," she said.
