Michelle Welch has lived in Claremont for 17 years with her husband Donald and three boys. She currently works at Claremont Service and volunteers at the school district when needed. She has worked as a para-professional in local school districts and as a substitute teacher.
She is running for Claremont City Council because her neighbor and former councilman Joe Butler had asked her run because he thought she would be good at it.
"I'm not going in with a hidden agenda," she explained. "I would like to see the budget tightened a little because we can't spend money we don't have." She would also like to find a way to draw new people into the community.
"If elected I'll do my best listen and ask questions and understand the problems at hand before voting one way or another," she said. "You have to ask questions in order to make an informed decision."
Welch has been active in Hog Fest planning and volunteered for the ambulance service for four years. "I enjoy being able to give back to the community."
