John Allen is running for a seat as County Commissioner of District One in Dodge County.
The position, in the newly redistricted legislature, represents the City of Mantorville and Mantorville and Milton Townships.
Allen grew up in Mantorville and is a graduate of Kasson-Mantorville High School. He has been farming north of Mantorville ever since. He now works for S&L Contracting out of Rochester as a project manager.
He has served on the Dodge County Planning/Zoning Board for six years and is its chair. He served on the Kasson-Mantorville School Board for 14 years. He is a member of the Mantorville Masonic Lodge.
"I have always been interested in government," he said. "I have no big goals. There is always more that goes into county government than I might be aware of at the moment. I'm ready to learn."
He and his wife Carol have four children, all graduates of Kasson-Mantorville High School. "My wife did a good job raising those kids," he said.
He added that he would like to see the county do more and more of their own maintenance.
"I feel that we don't need any more government," Allen said. "We need more private sector jobs, but that's a state and national problem."
He said that in his spare time he likes to talk with his buddies about old times in Mantorville and the good times down by the bridge.
