7/26/2013 5:04:00 PM The Renewable Energy Task Force hosts guest speaker Dr. Joel Tallaksen.
The Renewable Energy Task Force (RETF) will be hosting guest speaker Dr. Joel Tallaksen, in the Minnesota Valley Room on the first floor of the Intergovernmental Center. Dr. Tallaksen has a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in Plant Biological Sciences and is the Gasification Project Coordinator for the University of Minnesota, Morris gasification facility.
The presentation will be about renewable biomass and farmer participation to creating agricultural biomass markets in Minnesota. A recent state wide survey discovered that south central and southwest regions in Minnesota are better suited for producing large amounts of biomass, but the farmers in those regions have expressed relatively little interest in producing biomass. The survey also discovered the opposite to be true of farmers in the northwest region of Minnesota. Farmers in the northwest region have expressed a greater interest in producing and selling biomass.
Farmers are in an important position of deciding whether they want to use their time, energy, and fields to produce biomass. Dr. Tallaksen's presentation will provide practical information for southern Minnesota's farmers, public officials, and citizens interested in biomass and its affects in the region.
The presentation will take place on Friday, August 9th in the Intergovernmental Center. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. and the presentation will begin at 10 a.m. All meetings are open to the general public, businesses, organizations, government, non-profit agencies, and concerned citizens.
