Letter to the editor supporting Senjem

As a physician, I am really bothered when I see outright lies promoted as part of a campaign effort.  One of the biggest lies this election cycle is that Senator Dave Senjem is against medical research.  NOTHING could be further from the truth.  I hope the residents of Senate district 25 recognize how much Senator Senjem supports medical research and has worked to improve health care delivery to our state.  He has worked to improve rural health care access and strengthen medical research in SE Minnesota and across all of Minnesota.  Why is this?   He learned about the importance of medical research as he worked 44 years at the Mayo Clinic where he saw firsthand its importance.  He also served as President of the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester where he met cancer patients and survivors and learned the importance of medical research.  What did he do once elected?  He founded the statewide Autism task force and led efforts to double the funding for the Hormel Research Institute for cancer research.  He has been a key leader in developing the biotechnology research efforts in Rochester.   As a physician, I know I can count of Senator Senjem to provide leadership for improving medical research and health care delivery for all Minnesotans including my patients.  We cannot trust this responsibility to an untested opponent.  I urge you to support Dave Senjem for re-election to Senate District 25.

R. Scott Wright, M.D.
