Publisherʼs Column Start squeaking for US 14 today

We must become the squeakiest wheel in Minnesota if we want to succeed in getting US 14 between Dodge Center and Owatonna upgraded to save lives, as I said in last week's editorial. We will only succeed if we can keep the attention of the people on the following list focused on getting US 14 upgraded as soon as possible. They will not respond to my editorials calling on them to act, but they will respond to your letters, telephone calls and emails demanding that they act, if, and only if, those letters, telephone calls and emails start now and continue until legislation is passed to fund the construction and construction is scheduled. We must bombard them all with a constant barrage of communications telling them to get the legislation required passed and construction scheduled.

When legislation is being considered, as many of us as possibly can will have to travel to St. Paul to meet with legislators to persuade them to support the legislation. We will have to attend committee hearings and testify in support of the legislation.

Even after the legislation is passed and the project is scheduled, we will have to continue to work for the success of the project, including working with MNDOT to persuade our neighbors owning land along the route of the new highway to sell their land so construction can proceed.

It will not be an easy task getting this project funded, scheduled and built, but we can succeed if we will commit ourselves to succeeding.

These are the people we must begin contacting immediately:

We will do whatever we can here at the newspaper to see that our public officials are aware of the need to get US 14 upgraded but, as I said above, they don't care as much about what editorials say as they do about what you say. It is up to you to persuade them. I have one request for you to help us know how to proceed. Please send me a short letter or email, no telephone calls, letting us know if this is something you want us to continue to cover and encourage. Our email and post office addresses are in the box below.

Have a great week!
