Hayfield School Board Hayfield wrestling merging with Blooming Prairie's?

By Tara Lindquist

The Hayfield School Board discussed the possibility of merging their wrestling program with Blooming Prairie's.

According to Ron Evjen, the district was approached by Blooming Prairie in recent weeks and discussed the possibility of the joining the two programs into one. "It's something that we are open to," Evjen said. "There will be a lot more discussion before a decision is made and there are a lot of logistics that will need to be worked out." According to Evjen, Blooming Prairie is facing a lot of forfeits in weight classes because their team numbers are low and are not predicted to get any better in coming years. The board made no decisions on the matter and school officials will continue to meet with Blooming Prairie on the matter. The School Board voted unanimously to assess an iPad technology user fee for the next school year. The fee will be required for every student in grades 7-12 if they wish to bring the iPad home with them. If they do not choose to bring home their iPad they will not have pay the user fee. The board also discussed their ongoing search for a new Superintendent, as Ron Evjen will be leaving the district at the end of the school year. The board has hired School Exec Connect to help with their search for candidates. According to school board member Lana Mindrup the board felt this was the best option as the business does a lot of the search for them and brings them candidates that are going to be a good fit for the school. "We also have a survey on our school's website right now for people to take to give us an idea of what they'd like to see in our next superintendent."

The board also approved the payment of the bills; the FFA Land rent agreement for $900, baseball fundraiser at the Pizza Ranch and the list of capital expenditure recommendations for the 2014-15.

The board will meet again on March 17.
