Prigge, Douglas retain school board's chair, vice chair spots
Annual organizational meeting held Jan. 7 at the BHS board room

By David Richards

The Byron school board held its annual organizational meeting Tuesday, Jan. 7 in the Byron High School board room.

The board next meets Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. at the same location.

At the organizational meeting, the board makes decisions for the coming year, including naming board officers, legal council and setting board salaries.

The board reelected Matt Prigge board chair and Chris Douglas vice chair for 2014. Peggy Morris was named treasurer, with Faith Hollasch named board clerk.

Paul Daley, Peggy Harris and Tessa Olive were named board directors.

For the board salaries, the board members will again receive $1,000 per year, with Prigge, as board chair, earning an additional $500. Board negotiators, which this year are Harris, Prigge and Douglas, also receive an additional $500.

The decisions continued.

The board named The Byron Review its official newspaper and designated the bulletin board by the district office at Byron High School as the official posting place for school board meeting notices.

In addition, the notices will also be posted at Byron Middle School, the elementary school, community education center, on the district's Web site, the high school multipurpose room, Byron City Hall, Byron Market Place and The Byron Review.

The board designated Ratwik, Roszak & Maloney, P.A. as legal counsel for the school district with the option to seek advice outside of the area in times of litigation.

The board named First Security Bank as the primary depository for the school district checking account and the Minnesota District Liquid Asset Fund as the primary depository for investments.

Morris, Daley and Hollasch were appointed to the school board's finance committee, which will also add facilities to this committee. The committee could be busy with the design phase of the building of the new school if the bond vote passes in March.
