Hayfield wrestled a triangular at Kenyon with K-W and LaCrescent on Thursday, January 30. The weather wasn't looking promising in the morning for the triangular to take place but the meet went on as planned. The triangular started out with Hayfield and LaCrescent taking the mat. Hayfield's first four wrestlers, Jackson Heydt, Morgen Moreno, Cole Rasmussen, and Cam Stadler won with falls. There was a double forfeit at 132 and LaCrescent forfeited to Mason Moreno at 138. This put Hayfield up 30-0. Lane Canny lost to senior Jon Wilson by a fall at 145. Chris Johnson went six minutes with Brady Barton but lost 11-1. Connor Nelson added six points with a fall in 2:19 at 160 against Cole Flannery. Zach Elward stepped in for Hayfield at 170 receiving a forfeit. Garrison Mindrup (182) pinned Lyn Olson in 1:08. Corey Thompson (195) received a forfeit. Trey Chatman (220) faced senior Tom Wieser losing by a fall in 1:37. Hayfield forfeited at 285 which made the final score 60-16.
Their dual against K-W didn't have the same results. Hayfield lost 48-21. K-W had a full roster while Hayfield had to forfeit at three weights. Most of Hayfield's losses went six minutes and a couple of them were decided by one or two points. They certainly did put up a fight. Hayfield kept the dual close through 132 when they were trailing 11-9 but K-W broke away after that making it tough for the Vikings to catch up especially with their three forfeits at their upper weights. Hayfield will wrestle a triangular in Waseca with Medford on Monday, Feb 3. On Thursday, Feb. 6 the Vikings will end their regular season with a triangular in Pine Island with PEM.
