The Dodge County Girls Hockey Team won the consolation championship on Saturday, December 28, in the three-day Centennial Holiday Tournament in the Twin Cities.
"We won the final game 4-0, beating Centennial, to take the consolation championship," Coach Jeremy Gunderson said. "The girls passed puck excellent and looked really good."
Molly Shelton scored the first goal in the first period with assists from Dana Rasmussen and Emily Gunderson. Darby Dodds scored an unassisted goal in the second period. Dodds scored a goal in the third period with an assist from Rasmussen. Rasmussen scored the final goal in the third period with assists from Dodds and Hollywood Hermanson.
Gabby Suhr made 11 saves. Phaylen Meyer of Centennial made 35 saves.
The Wildcats lost the first game by a score of 7-0 on December 26 to Wayzata.
"A bunch of our girls were sick or injured, but we out skated and out shot the Wayzata girls," Coach Gunderson said. "Our goalie really struggled. It was nice to see we could still compete with the second best team in the state."
Dodge County beat Moorhead 6-2 on December 27.
"We started getting healthy," Coach Gunderson said. "By the third period we played some really good hockey."
There was no scoring in the first period. Dodge County scored two goals in the second period, and Moorhead, one. Dodge County scored four goals in the third period and Moorhead, one. to make the score Dodge County, 6; Moorhead, 2.
Brede Postier scored the first goal with assists from Dodds and Gunderson. Dodds scored the second goal with assists from Bella Wagner and Jaci Hoehn.
Rasmussen scored the first goal in the final period with assists from Wagner and Hoehn. Dodds scored the second goal with assists from Postier and Gunderson. Dodds scored the third goal with assists from Shelton and Hermanson. Rasmussen scored the final goal with assists from Dodds and Wagner.
Suhr made 17 saves. Brianna made 41 saves for Moorhead.
