The Cobra girls had a tournament over the holiday break in Randolph and played two great basketball games, according to Coach Peggy Moran.
They played Grand Meadow on Friday in the first round.
"We did not play a good first half," she said. "We talked about some things at half time and the girls responded to start the second half with a 12-0 start. I was proud of how the defense stepped up and led to some easy buckets. We ended up winning 58-36."
They played in the championship game against Randolph on Saturday.
"The girls hung in there tough and never gave up," Coach Moran said. In both halves we got down by 13 points and the girls just kept fighting and clawing back. At the half we were only down by three. We just missed some shots at the end and had to foul and lost 51-59. We outrebounded Randolph and did a great job taking care of the ball. We needed to be more patient on the defensive end. Randolph shot 58% from the field, which is great."
Emily Hodgman played hard all weekend and earned All Tournament Team. She had a double double -12 points and 12 rebounds against Grand Meadow and 16 points and 7 rebounds vs. Randolph.
The Cobras were also led by Haley Staffon with a double double - 19 points and 10 points. Piper Yankowiak also scored in double figures both nights.
"Those two handled Randolph's pressure very well," Coach Moran said.
