Hayfield baseball played a doubleheader in Byron against the Bears on Saturday, May 11. It was a chilly and windy day. The clouds rolled in and out only dropping a few sprinkles of rain and even a few snowflakes but the teams were able to get both games completed. The Vikings split with the Bears losing the first game 12-6. Hayfield had twelve hits in the first game but the Bears held them to only six runs. The Bears led the Vikings 4-1 after three innings but they took a big lead after scoring eight runs in the fourth inning off of nine hits and two hit batters. Hayfield's bats woke up in the fifth inning. They had five hits. One of the hits was a two run homerun by Cam Rutledge which was Hayfield's first homerun of the season. Cole Kruger scored on a JB Stackhouse single to left field in the sixth inning. The Vikings would end the inning with runners on first and third.

Hayfield shut out the Bears 7-0 in the second game behind the arm of Cam Rutledge. Rutledge pitched all six innings. The defense also played six solid innings. The Vikings were able to take advantage of a few errors by the Bears as well.
