Brody Shaw leaps for the sky before the lightning begins.

Last Tuesday the Hayfield Varsity Track and Field team headed to Grand Meadow for their third outdoor meet of the season. What started out to be a great night in the 70s soon turned to thunderstorms before the teams even knew it. The meet ended up being cancelled after the 300 hurdles, four races short to finishing. It was nice getting in what races we could though.
In the 100m hurdles, the Hayfield hurdlers of Elizabeth Reynolds, Savanna Cordle, and Caitlyn Tempel took 4th, 5th, and 6th place with times of 20.67-21.42 seconds. Cordle also placed 5th in the 300m hurdles. In the 100m dash, Madison Heydt placed in 4th with a time of 14.30 and senior Amber Sprau came in just behind her with 14.31 seconds.
The two sprint relays of the night both placed in 4th. The 4x200m relay team consisted of Hannah Tempel, Kayli Hetrick, Bryanna Hetrick, and Karlie Clemens. Their time was 2:03.02. Clemens, Sprau, Elizabeth Klocke, and Rachel Czaplewski made up the 4x100m team with a time of 56.72 seconds.
Heydt placed 3rd with a time of 1:07.68 and Alexandra Louks placed in 5th with a time of 1:12.46 in the 400m dash.
The high jumpers at this meet were Rachel Czaplewski jumping her season best of 4-08 placing in 5th, Madison Booms placing in 9th with 4-04 and Savanna Cordle placing in 7th with a height of 4-06. Czaplewski also competed in the triple jump placing in 4th with a distance of 27-08, a new personal record. Madison Tebay had a distance of 25-07 placing in 5th.
The team ended up with eight new personal records for the night. Since this meet wasn't officially finished due to all the lightning strikes, no team scores were awarded.
Now all we can hope is that the weather finally cooperates with us and true "spring" weather soon approaches. You can check out the Hayfield tracksters this Saturday, May 11th at the Conference meet at Kasson-Mantorville. We hope to see you all cheering the team on at the most important meet of the season so far. Good luck Vikings!
