The original track schedule called for ten days of practice followed by an indoor meet at St. Mary's University in Winona. Best laid plans! Because of snow days and rescheduled parent-teacher conferences, Triton's track team managed to work in five days of practice before their inaugural meet indoors. It's been a challenge with the weather and unusually snowy spring to get any quality practice time in. We looked at the indoor meet as an extension of practice and an opportunity to get most everyone involved in one or two events to see how they would compete.
The coaching staff was ecstatic with the competitiveness that our athletes showed on Monday in Winona. With a large part of the squad being pretty inexperienced, we thought that all of them did a great job competing against some powerhouse programs like PEM, Lake City, and DESC. Eight teams participated in the meet hosted by Lewiston-Altura. The meet was not scored but places were awarded in each event.
Top eight results of the meet included: Abby Nerenhausen (2nd place 55 dash), Katy Erdmann (4th place 55 dash), Erdmann (6th place 200 dash), Piper Yankowiak (8th place 200 dash), McKenna Rubin (5th place 400 dash), Yankowiak (1st place 55 hurdles), Courtney Dohrmann (5th place 55 hurdles), 4 x 800 relay (Courtney West, Greta Rhodes, Vanessa Navarro and Michaela Bennerotte - 6th place), sprint medley relay (Nerenhausen, Dohrmann, Kiley Yankowiak and Maddie Boe - 7th place), Rubin (4th place long jump) and Haley Redican (8th place shot put). The boys top eight results included: Colton Chicos (8th place 1600 run), Hector Bugarin (3rd place 55 hurdles), Leif Bungum (4th place 55 hurdles), 4 x 800 relay (Gavin Johnson, Chicos, Landon Dostal and Nick Simonette - 8th place), sprint medley relay (Bugarin, Jax Bryngelson, Braedon Dostal and Simonette - 8th place), and Bungum (5th place triple jump).
The Cobra's home meet scheduled for Tuesday April 2nd has been moved indoors to RCTC. The meet will start at 5:30 PM with the field events and 5:45 with the running events. Teams competing include Pine Island, KM, KW, Stewartville, Lyle Pacelli, Byron and Owatonna's girls.
