The Byron-Lourdes gymnastics team began their 2012-2013 season by winning their own Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1st. This Invitational is called the Jeanne Harris Invitational-in loving memory of the former coach and mother of our current head coach, Anna Alzamora. Coach Alzamora couldn't be more proud of the girls in their season debut. The Byron JV also competed in the meet and placed 5th. The Bears scored 123 points. LaCrescent was second with 121.4 points, Redwing was third with 118.45 points, Pine Island was 4th with 117.95 points, Byron JV was 5th with 112.15 points, Caledonia was 6th with 109.95 points and St. Peter was 7th with 108.5 points.

Emma Jensen, an 8th grader, had the lone first place finish for the Bears. She won the vault with a score of 8.8. Annika Carlson was 4th with 8.5. Emma Weatherly was 8th with 8.4. Taylor Knesel was 12th with 8.3, and Stephanie Bellrichard was 13th with 8.3.

In the Uneven Bars, Carlson placed 4th with 7.25. Jillian Krier placed 5th with 7.15. Krier competed in the all around for the past five years, but is limited to only competing on the bars for now due to a knee injury which occurred during her volleyball season. Hannah Coleman was 11th with 7.0. Bellrichard was 12th with 6.65 and Lexie Caples was 26th with 5.7.

In the balance beam, Carlson was 4th with 7.75. Bellrichard placed 7th with 7.5. Carlson and Bellrichard both stuck their routines. Knesel was 11th with 7.25. Coleman placed 14th with 7.15 and Jensen was 20th with 6.65.

In the floor routine, Carlson led the team with a third place finish and a score of 8.4. Coleman was 9th with 7.8. Bellrichard was 10th with 7.8. Audumn Brandau was 15th with 7.3. Knesel was 19th with a score of 7.1.

In the all around, Carlson placed 3rd with a score of 31.9 and Bellrichard placed 7th with 30.25.

Last year Byron- Lourdes placed 2nd in this meet and LaCrescent won it. The Bears have almost everyone back from last years' roster, and they are one more year experienced. The Bears have only won this Invitational 2 other times in the history of this event. They were champions in 2002 and 2003. This was a great way to start and the Bears are looking forward to a great season! They will host Waseca in their next meet on Thursday, Dec. 6th.
