Wildcat hockey teams back in action after winter tournaments

The girls and boys Dodge County Wildcat hockey teams took to the ice for their first games of 2018 over the weekend.

The girls chalked up two wins, defeating Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper 8-1 on Friday night and Chisago Lakes 5-0 on Saturday. The boys lost to New Ulm 3-1 on Saturday.

Dodge County dominated the game at the Four Seasons Arena in Kasson, scoring three times in the first period and three time in the second before Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper got their first and only point on the scoreboard. The Wildcats wrapped up the scoring with two goals in the third period.

Dodge County had 32 shots on goal compared to 9 for their opponents. Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper incurred five penalties to three for the Wildcats.

Chisago Lakes

The girls traveled to Chisago Lakes on Saturday where they continued their winning record, handily defeating the home team.

One goal in the first period, followed by three in the second and one in the third led them to the win. They had 29 shots on goal compared to 10 for Chisago Lakes.

The Wildcats had two penalties in the first period, one in the second and two in the third. Chisago Lakes had one penalty in the first, four in the second and two in the third.

Next up for the girls is a Friday night game against Chaska/Chanhassen at home. Game time is 7 p.m.

The girls are 12-5 for the season.

Wildcat Boys

New Ulm

The boys did not fare as well over the weekend, dropping their game to New Ulm Saturday on their home ice.

Both teams were scoreless in the first period with New Ulm scoring the only goal in the second period. Dodge County started off the third period with their first and only goal followed by two more scores by New Ulm.

New Ulm had 47 shots on goal compared to 17 for the Wildcats. Dodge County had three penalties to two for New Ulm.

The Wildcats are back on the ice Tuesday night when they face Legacy Christian at home. Game time is 7 p.m.

The boys are 5-8 for the season.
