Wrestlers take third at Maple Grove

The Byron Wrestling team is currently 4-2 as a dual and took 3rd Place at the Maple Grove Wrestling Tournament to start the season off. The Bears started the year at Maple Grove where they placed 3rd. Placewinners were: Austin Freerksen:1st Place, Maxwell Petersen: 1st, Mitchel Petersen: 2nd, Kyle Stahler: 2nd, Talon Freerksen:3rd, Trent Nelson:3rd, Chris Kline: 3rd. Jake Thompson was also a JV Champion at the Tournament. The Bears then went 0-2 in Duals losing to Plainview Elgin Millville 21-57 and losing to Kenyon-Wanamingo 24-57.

Dave Scharberg Memorial Tournament

The Bears then went on to go 3-0 to win the Dave Scharberg Memorial Tournament in Byron this past weekend. The Bears were celebrating 50 Years of Byron Wrestling as well on the day of the tournament recognizing past wrestlers, coaches, and managers.

"Overall these past couple weeks we wrestled fairly well," said head coach Ryan Radke. "We had some ups and downs and had many learning opportunities. We're a young team and need to keep having these kids from making basic mistakes. That's the only thing that has hurt us but the season is early. We'll focus on getting better every day and keep preparing for the end of the season."

Bears defeat Triton

In their most recent dual, the Bears defeated Triton 60-9, Dec. 14, in Byron.

"We've had a couple good weeks of wrestling and was nice to get a home win," Radke said. "Triton has several guys out so we received a lot of forfeits but we had lots of JV matches and our youth program wrestled that night so was a great night of wrestling. We get a weekend of to help recover and get ready for Stewartville at home next Thursday."

Winning the Varsity Hammer was Kyle Stahler and for JV Wyatt Nemecheck.
