The Hayfield Vikings have been progressively building a championship level team over the past few years. The team has worked day in and day out playing scrappy defense and aggressively attacking their opponents. Add in a large senior cast filled with leadership and experience and the stage should be set for the Vikings to make a deep playoff-run.
The only thing standing in their way was an annual battle with the Bethlehem Academy Cardinals.
The Cardinals and the Vikings have met in the Section 1A West Championship for the past six years. The battle has been closer, but the Cardinals have dominated the series with the Vikings over the past few years. Hayfield upset Bethlehem Academy, making this year's rematch even more interesting.
The Cardinals came out fast and furious in the first set of the Section 1A West Championship. The Vikings had difficulty slowing down the Cardinals offense. The Cardinals won the first set 25-19.
The Vikings stormed back winning sets two and three in dominant fashion with scores of 25-16 and 25-15. All things were pointing to a Hayfield victory, but the Cardinals had different ideas. Bethlehem Academy was not going to go down so easily.
