The Hayfield Volleyball team had an incredible week with not one, but five victories over local opponents to move to 7-0 on the young season. The Vikings were able to defeat Lake City in a conference match up and LeRoy-Ostrander, Dover-Eyota, Alden-Conger and Pine Island in the Hayfield Invitational.

The Hayfield Vikings (3-0 Overall, 1-0 Conference) swept the Lake City Tigers to win its third straight victory.

At times, the Vikings looked a little sloppy but never lost their cool. They won by scores of 25-14, 25-10, and 25-15.

Hayfield stats: Maggie Streightiff, 10 kills, 15 assists, 9 digs, 3 blocks, 1 ace; Carrie Rutledge, 8 kills, 14 digs, 1 block; Kate Kruger, 7 kills, 4 digs, 3 blocks, 2 aces; Katrina Thoe, 4 kills; Cela Carney, 13 digs.

The Vikings played host to a tournament this past Saturday. Attending were Lyle-Pacelli, Blooming Prairie, Goodhue, Pine Island, LeRoy-Ostrander, Dover-Eyota and Alden-Conger. Hayfield opened up tournament play against LeRoy-Ostrander.

The team make-up looked quite a bit different in the opening match as all the seniors were absent. They were busy taking the ACT Saturday morning, so the Hayfield JV filled in for them. The JV kept their own winning streak alive by defeating LeRoy-Ostrander by a pair of 25-15 victories.

The seniors returned in the afternoon and the winning continued. Hayfield defeated Dover-Eyota, with a pair of scores of 25-7 and Alden-Conger 25-15 and 25-11. The Vikings went on to the championship match against the Pine Island Panthers.

The Panthers were undefeated in pool play until they ran into the Vikings. It was close for a little while, but Hayfield came out victorious to claim the championship. They defeated the Panthers with scores of 25-16 and 25-15.

Tournament stats: Maggie Streightiff, 25 kills, 41 assists, 24 digs, 1 block, 2 aces; Kate Kruger, 21 kills, 3 digs, 4 blocks; Carrie Rutledge, 20 kills, 22 digs, 1 block, 5, aces; Katrina Thoe, 8 kills; Olivia Matti, 7 kills, 17 digs, 1 block, 2 aces; Alexis Dudycha, 4 kills, 39 assists, 16 digs, 2 aces; Cela Carney, 35 digs.

Next up for the Vikings are two conference opponents. Hayfield will host the Triton Cobras on Tuesday and then will travel to Kenyon to take on the Knights on Thursday. The Junior Varsity will host their own tournament on Saturday.
