On Saturday, April 29, Hayfield Elementary teacher, Mark Voyce was inducted into the Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame at a ceremony held in Benson, Minnesota. Voyce was one of ten individuals to enter the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Voyce coached wrestling in Hayfield from 1986 to 2011. His teams placed second in the state tournament in 1993 and 1996 and his team won the 1997 Class A Title. Voyce coached 52 individuals that qualified for the state tournament, with 31 place-winners and 11 state champions. A number of his wrestlers went on to compete at the college level and/or became wrestling coaches. He was also a very successful wrestling official.
Voyce was joined at this event by his family and a number of former Hayfield wrestlers. This Hall of Fame has 261 members state wide from 1969 to 2017. Members are coaches, contributor, officials and athletes. Voyce joins such notable individuals as Dr. Norman Borlang from the U of M, Vern Gagne of wrestling fame, and Wally Johnson, U of M coach for many years.
Hayfield now has two former wrestlers in the Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame; Corey Olson and Brad Pike; official Rick Rud; and two former coaches; David Erickson, and now Mark Voyce.
