One of the most decorated wrestlers in Byron High School history made his college choice official last week.
Senior Matt Petersen signed his letter of intent to wrestle next year at Division II Mankato State on April 27.
"It's very exciting," Byron head coach Ryan Radke said. "He's been wanting to do this for a lot of years. He's a very focused kid."
Petersen finished this year an undefeated 39-0 and clinched the state championship at the slim weight class of 106 pounds.
"I'm two of him," Radke said.
Petersen was also a four-year lettermen, an academic all-state selection and a two-time state placer.
He took fourth in last year's tournament.
"He's a kid who eats, breathes and sleeps wrestling," Radke said. "He loves to be around it. Everyone knows who he is when he walks into a gym. He's already doing the things he needs to do for next year."
