For the first time in the Triton school history, the Cobra boys golf team clinched the league title trophy and the HVL Conference Championship. The Cobras took on the stunning 18 hole Mt Frontenac golf course, that overlooks the Mississippi River bluffs and Lake Pepin, with Zach Otto shooting a 71 to secure 1st place medalist honors and help boast the boys to Conference Champs. Triton has never attained an HVL title. Byron and Lourdes have flip flopped for years taking home the trophy.
According to some of the Triton boys, the course had tough greens and tons of trees, adding to the higher than normal scores, but the Cobras squeezed out a second place victory.
Twelve teams participated in the Tournament with first place going to Lourdes and third place to Kasson-Mantorville. Twelve teams participated, Lake City, Byron, Cannon Falls, Stewartville, Zumbrota-Mazeppa, LaCrescent, Hayfield, Pine Island and Kenyon-Wanamingo.
Gretchen Keller shot an 89 to put her in 11th place out of 55 girls in the HVL Championship for the girls teams.
The Triton team travels to Eastwood Golf Course in Rochester Friday, May 23 for Sub-Sections, then Wednesday, May 28 for the start of section play.
