George Adam Nixon, 90, of Dodge Center passed away on March 4, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Marys Campus in Rochester,.
George was born on May 17, 1927, the son of Edward and Mary (Becker) Nixon in Dodge Center. He graduated from Claremont High School. George served in the Navy from 1945 until 1946 during WWII. He was a participant in the SE MN Honor Flight Program that toured Washington DC.He was a member of the American Legion Post #384 and the United Methodist Church in Dodge Center.
George was united in marriage to Janice Paulson in Dodge Center in 1966. He worked as a machine operator at McNeilus Steel Inc. for many years. George spent many hours in his vegetable garden providing fresh produce for his family, loved going for long drives around country roads but also loved going to South Dakota, bird watching at Rice Lake State Park was a favorite hobby along with boxing, reading Ring Magazine and watching Gunsmoke on TV. He loved his family and we loved his positive attitude, his sharp wit and most of all his sense of humor.
George is survived by his children, Terryl (Jerry) Pietz, Mankato; Bruce (Teri) Nymann, Faribault; Kent (Cheryl) Nymann, Plainview; Holly (Steve) Muehleis, Kasson; Mary (Peter) Vikeras, Savage; Mark Nixon, Coon Rapids; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 1990; 2 brothers and 3 sisters, and special friend, Lavonne Racek.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 25 South Street SW in Dodge Center. Interment will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. The family wishes a special thank you to Jamie Pater from Prairie River Services for the care and friendship she provided.
