Albert V. Ciffra, age 88 of Owatonna, died on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Homestead Hospice House, Owatonna.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Dodge Center, on Thursday, January 16, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Robert Lentz officiating. Interment will be at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park, Faribault.
Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Albert Victor was born March 6, 1925, in Summit Township, Steele County, MN. On April 23, 1946, he married Arlene B. Schlobohm at Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage in Medford. Together with his wife they farmed and operated a livestock trucking business. He also hauled canned milk, peas and corn; worked at Owatonna Central Co-op and the Kenyon canning company; and did custom farm work. He held various church offices and was Sunday School superintendent. He especially enjoyed having the family together.
He is survived by eight children, Norman (Jeanne) Ciffra of Nevis, Albert D. (Rhonda) Ciffra of Dodge Center, JoAnn (Bernie) Scherger of Dodge Center, Joyce Ciffra of Owatonna, Laura (Rev. Harold) Storm of Gaylord, Lois Ciffra of Owatonna, Karen (John) Cutting of Byron and Carol Ciffra of Faribault and a son-in-law, Robert Scherger of Dodge Center. Fifteen grandchildren, Gail (David) O'Brien; Jeremy (Jackie) and Jeff (Holly) Ciffra and Stephanie (Dan) Stanton; Kristin (Andrew) Rogers, Wendy (Steve) Johnson and Kevin Scherger; Heidi, Joshua (fiancée Jenny Schwope) and Michael Storm; Jessica (Adam) Falk, Kelly and Jared Cutting; and Casey and Zachary Ciffra. Fifteen great grandchildren, Cole, Madison and Cale Ciffra; Jeffrey Ciffra; Tate, Jack, Emma and Tadd Stanton; Anika, Kaden and Alexa Rogers; Alayna, Greta and Jake Johnson; and Josephina Cutting. Two sisters, Marie Tuve of Elysian and Margaret (Elmer) Vikla of Lonsdale. Brothers-in-law, Duane (Diane) Schlobohm of Faribault and Sherman (Joyce) Benson of Kenyon. Sisters-in-law Lorraine (Donald) Dostal of West Concord; Valeria (Clayton) Harris of Spring Lake Park; Eleanor (Fred) Neubert of Sauk Centre; and Louise Schlobohm of Faribault. And step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Albert was preceded in death by his wife Arlene B., a daughter, Arlene E. Scherger; brothers-in-law, Edwin Tuve and Donald Schlobohm; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Benson.
Memorials are preferred to The Lutheran Hour, Trinity Radio Club, Faribault or Homestead Hospice House, Owatonna.
