A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Dr. Virginia Flores Cravens at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 10:00 AM with Rev. Msgr. James E. Young officiating.
Dr. Cravens passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013, at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born in Dodge Center, Minnesota on March 3, 1924, the daughter of Otoniel Flores and Minerva Benson Flores.
She graduated from Doge Center High School and received a B.S. Degree in 1946 from College of St. Theresa, in Winona, Minnesota. She also attended the University of Minnesota where she received a M.A. degree in Science, Math and Curriculum, a specialist Degree in Education Psychology in 1971, receiving her Ph,D in Administration from the University of Minnesota in 1976.
Dr. Cravens enjoyed a long and successful career in Education as a teacher, counselor, supervisor and administrator. The highlight of her career was receiving the Minnesota Personnel and Guidance Administrator of the Year award. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, swimming, reading, sewing, and helping those less fortunate. Virginia was a loving and caring lady.
Dr. Cravens was very active in her church. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies Guild, the Third Age Club and St. Vincent DePaul Society.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John N. Cravens; her parents; sister, Graciela "Mickie" Flores Watson. She is survived by numerous cousins including Esther LaCroix.
