The funeral mass for Dorothy M. Janvrin, 73, of Stewartville, Mn. will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday (October 16, 2012) at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Stewartville, Mn. with Rev. Matt Fasnacht officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Stewartville. Mrs. Janvrin died Wednesday (October 10, 2012), following a 9 month illness with pancreatic cancer, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Mn. where she had been a patient since Sunday.
Dorothy Marie Mitchell was born March 12, 1939 in Rochester, Mn. to George and Ella (Goldbeck) Mitchell. She grew up on the family farm in rural Rochester, attended country school and Rochester schools, graduating from Rochester H.S. in 1957. She then attended Mankato State University in Mankato, Mn. where she received her teaching degree and began teaching elementary school in Owatonna, Mn. Dorothy was married on Dec. 29, 1962 in Rochester to William (Bill) E. Janvrin Jr. (retired from IBM in Rochester). Following their marriage the couple lived in Rochester and Spring Valley, Mn. before moving to rural Stewartville in 1969 where they raised their family and have continued to make their home. Dorothy taught school in Rochester and Spring Valley before teaching primarily 6th grade in the Byron school district for 33 years. In retirement, Dorothy focused her time on family and friends while also volunteering with the Ladies Auxiliary at Methodist Hospital in Rochester. She enjoyed reading, writing letters, needlepoint, following the Minnesota Twins and Viking and camping with her grandchildren and her endless supply of marshmallows. She cherished her friendships, beloved nieces and nephews, and most of all, her family, especially her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Bill; her daughter - Sherry (Lonnie) Bergeson of Stewartville and her son - Jeffrey (Elizabeth) of La Crosse, Wis.; 6 grandchildren - Tim, Ellie and Lindsay Bergeson; Hannah, Gretchen and Nathan Janvrin; 1 sister - Alice O'Groske of Byron, Mn. and 3 brothers - Glenn Mitchell of Rochester; Lowell (Sylvia) Mitchell of Mazeppa and Robert (Joan) Mitchell of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her son Steve, her parents and 2 brothers - Richard and Don Mitchell.
Friends may call from 5 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday (October 15, 2012) at Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. and 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning.
