Frances J. Burmeister, 93, of Spring Valley died Sunday, September 17, 2017, at Spring Valley Living.
Frances Junette was born June 28, 1924, on a farm north of Canton near Henrytown. She was the daughter of Edward A. and Nora Erickson. She attended Henrytown rural school through 6th grade and then Canton school. She graduated high school in 1941. On December 4, 1947, she was married to Manley "Hoot" Burmeister at her sister Florence's home in Harmony. The couple lived in Rushford for 5 years and the remaining years in Spring Valley.
Frances was a homemaker and active volunteer. Frances joined the VFW Auxiliary in 1948 and was an active LIFETIME member. She was also a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, Bethel Bible Series for adults and assisted with Youth Groups. She was active in WELCA "Doing Day" and other activities. She was also treasurer for Spring Valley Township for 18 years. Frances enjoyed sewing, including some quilting and embroidery projects. She also enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by four children, Ann Thon of Spring Valley; Cheryl (Tom) Boyd of Bend, OR; James (the late Sherry) Burmeister of Brownsdale, MN; and Shelley (Tom) Gierhan of Livingston, MT, also survived by a son-in-law Ron (the late Jackie) Helmke of Rockport, TX; step-daughter Sharon (Don) Mahaffey of Hawaii; a foreign exchange student Sue from Thailand; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Hoot (1982); a daughter Jackie (2008); a daughter-in-law Sherry (1995); 5 brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Homes in Spring Valley. Funeral will be Friday, September 22 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. Burial will follow at Spring Valley Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Our Saviors Lutheran Church or The Special Olympics.
