Mantorville barn must come down
At their meeting Aug 12, 2013, the Mantorville city council members agreed the barn with a collapsed roof from the May 2 snowstorm must come down by Sept 2. The owner has been working on the demolition but recent work indicated one wall could fall onto neighboring property so the owner is seeking an alternate method of tearing down the structure.
The council members approved allowing the Mantorville Saloon to extend their liquor license into their parking lot for some of the Marigold Days weekend Sept 7 and 8.
The council also approved the street closings for the festival. They discussed the insurance coverage for the event because last year, a participant backed their vehicle into a fire hydrant. The insurance agent for the Mantorville Restoration Association - who sponsors the festival - will talk to the council about the coverage.
The council approved workers' compensation insurance for members of the council if they perform work for the city under specific guidelines.
Aug 22 the council will meet at 6 p.m. at city hall for their fall retreat. On the agenda are the annual budget planning, the dog park, and the sidewalk ordinance among other items.
