8/14/2014 6:26:00 PM Short-term detour for westbound Highway 14 traffic in Steele County
A one-week detour for westbound Highway 14 traffic begins Monday, Aug. 18, weather permitting, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Westbound traffic will be detoured from Steele County Road 180 west to Steele County Road 43, where traffic will turn south and re-connect with Highway 14.
Workers will be widening the shoulder through that area and strengthening it during the week. Work is expected to begin at 5:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 18.
The project east of Owatonna began Monday, July 7 from Highway 218 east to 54th Avenue and includes some lane closures. Motorists will encounter lane restrictions on the west side of the project.
The highway will be expanded from two lanes to four lanes and was part of the Corridors of Commerce state program for highway construction in Minnesota. The $12 million project is expected to be completed in September of 2015. Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, is the prime contractor.
