St. Paul - On Tuesday, January 08, Senator-elect Matt Schmit dropped the "elect" portion of his title and was sworn in, officially becoming the new Senator from District 21.
"It was an honor and a privilege to take the oath and begin serving as state senator," Senator Schmit said. "I'm humbled by the opportunity to join the 88th legislature and begin working for the people of southeast Minnesota. From finding a structural solution to our budget problems to growing the economy, we have a lot of serious work to do this session."
As the 2013 legislative session begins, Senator Schmit will serve as the chair of the Game and Fish subcommittee, and Vice Chair on the Jobs, Agricultural and Rural Development Committee. In addition, he will serve on the Capital Investment, Environment and Energy, and Environment, Economic Development and Agricultural Finance committees.
"My committee assignments will allow me to work on issues that are important to southeast Minnesota. I'm especially pleased to serve as Vice Chair on the Jobs committee. We need to continue to improve our economy and provide opportunities for communities to grow and prosper."
