REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2017 - 6:00 P.M.

TRITON PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - DODGE CENTER, MN

-Meeting Proceedings-

Chair J. Jensen called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Those members present: Lloyd Henslin, Jr., Rebecca Knutson, Rodney Dostal, Melissa Kubat, Tracy Petersohn, Dale Jensen and Jim Jensen; absent: none. Also present: Superintendent Brett Joyce, Principal Nick Jurrens, Principal Craig Schlichting, Principal Luke Lutterman, Student Council Representative Courtney West, Patty Braeger and 15 visitors.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Kubat/D. Jensen motioned to approve the agenda with the additions to Item 5.5 Approve Contract for Jenny Carlson as LPN School Nurse and Resignation for Steve Selthun as a Route Bus Driver effective August 28, 2017. Motion carried unanimously.

Knutson/Henslin motioned to approve the consent agenda including the August 21, 2017 regular meeting minutes and August 30, 2017 work session minutes; claims and bills; financial report; open enrollment/nonresident agreements for students #091817A, #091817B, #091817C, #091817D, #091817E, #091817F , #091817G, #091817H, #091817I, #091817J, #091817K, #091817L, #091817M, #091817N, #091817O, #091817P and #091817Q; resignation for Kayla Kunz as Cobra Kids Coordinator effective August 31, 2017; extra-curricular contracts for Jessica Clement as Head Dance Coach and Amy Woxland as Prom Advisor; contracts for Mike Purinton and Steve Fairchild as Bus Drivers, Teresa Sawyer as Cobra Kids Supervisor, Kelly Roussel as Educational Assistant ECSE, Jenny Carlson as LPN School Nurse and resignation for Steve Selthun as a route Bus Driver effective August 28, 2017. Motion carried unanimously.

The new ZED Executive Director Patrick Gordon introduced himself and explained the services offered at ZED.

FFA Advisor Robert Ickler, Sam Newman, Carissa Kleinwort and Bailey Delzer, shared information regarding the National FFA Convention trip to Indianapolis.

Henslin/D. Jensen motioned to approve the overnight stay for the National FFA Convention trip to Indianapolis, October 24-28, 2017. Motion carried unanimously.

High School Teacher Karen Kleinwort explained the new grading system she is using in her classroom grading on outcome and measuring what a student knows. Grading Smarter has several re-do's and re-takes where they celebrate small successes and have less punitive measures.

J. Jensen/Kubat motioned to approve the proposed 2017 Payable 2018 Levy Certification - "maximum amount". Motion carried unanimously.

Petersohn/Knutson motioned to approve the Resolution Establishing Absentee Ballot Board. Motion carried unanimously. (Attachment A)

Petersohn/Kubat motioned to approve the Resolution Appointing Election Judges for the November 7, 2017 School District Special Election. Motion carried unanimously. (Attachment B)

Superintendent Brett Joyce reported on enrollment numbers.

Principal Nick Jurrens reported on interviews, hearing and vision testing, pictures, Infinite Campus, lunch schedule change, introducing himself to the different grades, being interviewed by 3rd grade students and elementary standards based grading measuring proficiency.

Principal Luke Lutterman explained the new 6th grade orientation with parents, schedules, Infinite Campus, parent focus group, field trip for 7th graders to the Ordway and academic achievement goals.

Principal Craig Schlichting stated the new administration team is great and reported on ACT scores and community morning coffee on Thursdays from 7-8 a.m.

Superintendent Brett Joyce reported on the following items:

• Levy meeting

• Flyer and voting information

• MSBA advocacy tour

• Thank you to Ellingson Drainage and Amateur Baseball Assoc. for the baseball field drain tile

• October School Board meeting will be in the High School Media Center due to the fall play practice

• Upcoming Certified negotiations meeting

Student Council Representative Courtney West updated the Board on their events including the activity expo. for clubs, homecoming, color run and proceeds going to American Society for Suicide Prevention, utilizing Twitter, Instagram and Snap Chat to connect with students for member development, and changing school culture.

Director Henslin gave an update on ZED.

Petersohn/D. Jensen motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:12 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
