TRITON ISD NO. 2125 - SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES

REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2013 - 6:00 P.M.

TRITON HIGH SCHOOL - DODGE CENTER, MN

-Meeting Proceedings-

Chair Streiff called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Those members present: Jon Streiff, Lloyd Henslin, Jr., Chad Johnson, Bryce Kleinwort, Terry Selthun and Duane Bartel; absent: Dale Jensen. Also present: Superintendent Robert Kelly, Principal Brett Joyce, Principal Nancy Stucky, Principal Craig Schlichting, Student Council Representative Amber Miosi, Deb Meeker, Patty Braeger, Craig Anderson, Rebecca Sandager, Andy Jensen and Caleb Bartel.

Bartel/Henslin to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

Kleinwort/Selthun to approve consent agenda as presented including the January 14, 2013 regular meeting minutes and January 30, 2013 study session minutes; claims and bills; financial report and open enrollment agreements #021113A, #021113B, #021113C, #021113D, #021113E, #021113F, #021113G, and #021113H; and resignation for Krystal Enger as Educational Assistant. Motion carried unanimously.

Band Director Andy Jensen presented the itinerary for the Triton Jazz Band trip to Duluth.

Bartel/Johnson motioned to approve students to attend an overnight trip to Duluth March 8-9 for Jazz Band. Motion carried unanimously.

BPA Advisor Rebecca Sandager and Caleb Bartel explained the competitive events that they will be participating in at the leadership conference.

Johnson/Kleinwort motioned to approve an overnight trip for Business Professionals of America March 7-9. Motion carried unanimously.

Selthun/Bartel motioned to approve students to attend Whitewater for the 2013-2014 school year. Motion carried unanimously.

Member Selthun introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION

TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR REDUCTIONS

IN PROGRAMS AND POSITIONS AND REASONS THEREFOR.

WHEREAS, the financial condition of the school district dictates that the school board must reduce expenditures immediately, and

WHEREAS, this reduction in expenditure must include discontinuance of positions and discontinuance or curtailment of programs, and

WHEREAS, a determination must be made as to which teachers' contracts must be terminated and not renewed and which teachers may be placed on unrequested leave of absence without pay or fringe benefits in effecting discontinuance of positions,

BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 2125, as follows:

That the School Board hereby directs the Superintendent of Schools and administration to consider the discontinuance of programs or positions to effectuate economies in the school district and reduce expenditures and make recommendations to the school board for the discontinuance of programs, curtailment of programs, discontinuance of positions or curtailment of positions.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Bartel and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Streiff, Johnson, Kleinwort, Bartel, Selthun and Henslin

and the following voted against the same: none

whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.

Enrollment figures were discussed for first semester.

Bartel/Kleinwort motioned to approve the Triton calendar for 2013-2014. Motion carried unanimously.

Superintendent Robert Kelly reported on the following items:

• Construction update

• Evaluation forum

• Negotiations seminar

• Art room project

• FFA steak feed - February 23, 2013

Student Council Representative Amber Miosi reported on pennies for patients, snow week and raising funds for cystic fibrosis.

Bartel/Kleinwort motioned to adjourn the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
