By David Richards

Byron High music students are wrapping up a month-long project that enabled them to create a personalized audio greeting card for someone 65 or older.

"I think as a whole, the students were surprised with how well they liked this," said Sue Braun, high school vocal music director.

The students started with a blank greeting card, one which could playback at least 250 times, then picked a subject to interview. The project was based off a similar concept done in another state, then Braun put her own spin to it.

Braun and her students brainstormed what questions to ask, ones such as "Where did you grow up?" "What's your favorite color?," with the students doing the rest.

Each student, or a group of two or three if they chose, took a picture of the person they interviewed, made up lyrics in a familiar tune, then sung them back into the card, putting the picture on the card as well.

The end result was then delivered to the person interviewed.

"I think it's awesome," Braun said of the project. "They went to great lengths to make these cards."

The project was funded by the Byron parent teacher organization, and when asked what tune she would pick for her own personal audio card, Braun was quick to respond.

"'What a Wonderful World,' by Louis Armstrong," she said.
