The Paint the Town Pink initiative began in Austin a few years ago as a way to raise money for breast cancer research. This year the event is coming to Brownsdale.
Organizers have been hard at work coming up with different fundraisers to lead up to the big event, which will be held February 7-9.
To kick off the benefit, the group will be hosting a bake sale on October 12, during the town's community wide sidewalk sale. They will also be selling ribbons that will be displayed in local businesses through February.
The group also plans on hosting a family movie night at the elementary school, will put out donation jars at local businesses and will be hosting a craft night. They also hope to participate in Austin's Polar Plunge.
The group, which is yet to be named, has set a goal of raising $2,500. As a way to track the progress of the donations, a local resident has volunteered to make a pink donation thermometer that will be put up, across from Greenway gas station on Highway 56.
All of the money raised from now until the Paint the Town Pink weekend will be donated to the Hormel Cancer Institute to be used for breast cancer research.
