The Welcome Center of Mantorville greets newcomers to the lovely, historic town. It provides directions to fun places and is a good resource for tourists of the area.
It is run by volunteers, and funds are needed for improvements and utilities.
The Welcome Center Committee is putting on its seventh Motorcycle Run Aug. 25. The Motorcycle Run, organized by Linda Hughes and Janet Heinl, is a 165-mile ride that starts at Riverside Park and invites motorcycle enthusiasts to embark on the journey, while even earning prizes.
Each year, the group chooses a path for the ride with the help of fellow rider Loren Martinson.
While on the event, riders can enjoy the twists and turns as well as the scenery they pass by, with the path only having three stops along the way.
Meanwhile, people can also stick around in the park and enjoy the music as well as eat some strawberry shortcake and root beer floats.
The prizes include a $200 cash grand prize, door prizes, and another fun prize; for instance, last year the fun prize was a Tandem airplane jump. Sign ups for the ride are from 9 to 10:30 am, and motorcyclists are expected to return around 4 p.m. to be around for the announcement of the grand prize. "The Lost Faculties" will be playing from 2 to 4:30 pm.
