Steve Kramer was named the 2013 Business Person of the Year by the Dodge Center Chamber of Commerce at their Annual Meeting on February 4 at the American Legion Hall.
"The sky's the limit now," Kramer said of his decision to go on his own in 2007 after 17 years with Farm Bureau Insurance. He had come to Dodge Center and joined Farm Bureau Insurance straight out of college at Mankato State University.
He said he started his own independent agency because it gives him and his clients more opportunities.
"It has worked," he explained.
He works primarily in Dodge County and the neighboring area. His office is in downtown Dodge Center, directly across from NAPA Auto Parts. He sells auto, health, home, farm and business insurance.
"Everybody hates paying for insurance," he said. "But when they need it - when sickness or a car accident strikes or a bad storm hits, they are very glad they have it."
He said he likes the location of Dodge Center, not far from Rochester and Owatonna and not too far from the Twin Cities. They like living in a small town. There is plenty for him and his family to do and they can get to lots of places easily, too.
His son Matthew is a junior at Triton High School and his daughter Elizabeth is a freshman at Ohio Northern University. His wife, Mary, is his right hand person.
Steve grew up on a farm near Adams. He graduated from Southland High School in 1985 and from MSU in 1989.
He is pleased to report that his business is growing.
