The most recent meeting concerning possible routes for rail freight through Dodge County was held on Tuesday, January 22, with Dave Christianson of the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the  main speaker.

He was scheduled to talk about possible routes for freight rail routes from Rochester headed west.

"The previous routes in Dodge and Olmsted counties are on the attached map taken from the second page of the Minnesota Department of Transportation web site," Kathy King, chair of the Citizens Against Railroad Bypass, said. "I would like to strongly encourage people to come to the informational open houses planned to provide information to area citizens and feedback to the people working on the plans."

The upcoming meetings are:

Open House on January 28 at the Rochester Event Center from 5-6:30 p.m.

Public Advisory Committee Meeting on March 4 at Rochester Community and Technical College in Room HA 104 (down the hall from the Heintz Center) from 5- 6:30 p.m.

Open House (billed as the final open house) on March 13 at RCTC Heintz Commons from 5- 6:30 p.m. Information and maps on the much-anticipated Southern Rail Corridor to be presented.

Soon after that final open house, a meeting to present a final plan and recommendations will be presented to the public.

The studies and meetings are using federal funds provided by a request which came from Senator Amy Klobucher and are being supplemented by Olmsted County dollars from the Olmsted County Board and approved by the Olmsted County Regional Rail.
