It's a world of dog grooming, dog training, doggie daycare and homemade doggie treats.
Leashes & Leads opened its doors in 2008 and sits on 13 acres in Byron off of Highway 14.
For 2012, the chamber of commerce named it Byron's Business of the Year.
"I was very surprised," owner Jerry Fischer said. "I feel very gratified because this is an award from your peers."
Fischer accepted the honor at the chamber banquet Jan. 17 held at Somerby Golf Community.
Fischer said he and his wife opened the business following a nationwide search for the perfect location. The couple, which grew up in small farming communities, also looked at Littleton, Colo., Madison, Wis. and the suburbs of Chicago before choosing Byron.
"Moving into Byron really fit us," Fischer said. "It's a changing community, but it still has strong rural roots."
