Suspect charged for impounded truck theft

By Tara Lindquist

A Byron man was arrested on January 4, in connection with the theft of a 2005 Ford King Ranch pickup from the Dodge County Sheriff's Office Impound Lot on December 22, 2012.

Michael Schoenfelder was formally charged in Dodge County District Court on January 7, 2013, with one county of Felony Theft of a Motor Vehicle. The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

According the incident report, on December 22, Dodge County Deputy Jeff Brion was at the impound lot with Deputy Thrumes waiting to assist Deputy Heiden with a tow inventory. Upon the arrival of a vehicle, the driver noticed a hole in the east side of the fence of the impound lot. When Deputy Brion approached the fence he observed that an entire section, approximately eight feet in length had been removed by cutting the fence from pole to pole. The report states it appeared that a vehicle had been removed from a spot and taken through the opening.

Tire tracks were clearly vis- ible leaving eastbound through the cut out section, indicating the vehicle had been driven out of the lot. There were also what appeared to be four-wheeler tracks coming from the south to the location.

The report also states, Kasson Car Care had dropped the vehicle off in the impound

lot on December 18, 2012. During a bail hearing, Monday, Jan. 7, Schoenfelder was given an additional $6,000 conditional bail to go along with his $10,000 conditional bail from the original charges

in Dodge County Court. According to a release from Dodge County Sheriff Jim Jensen, Dodge County Sheriff's Office, Olmsted County Sheriff Department and Southeaster

Minnesota Narcotics Task Force recovered the pickup at a foreclosed residence in Oronoco on January 3, 2013.

On January 4, a Search Warrant was executed at Schoenfelder's residence in Byron. The release states, during questioning Schoendfelder admitted to stealing the pickup from the impound lot.

According to Jensen, Schoendfelder has bailed out of jail on the theft charges. He will appear in court again on January 16.
