Snow, ice and wind made for potentially dangerous driving conditions during a multi-state winterstorm that began late Dec. 19 and continued through Dec. 20.
According to the National Weather Service, by 1 p.m. Dec. 20, six to eight inches of snow blanketed Rochester and its surrounding communities, including Byron.
Olmsted County Sheriff's deputy Brandon Bornhorst said things were fairly quiet from midnight to early afternoon Dec. 20 with no accident calls in the Byron area and less than a handful of vehicles in the ditch off Highway 14.
"I think the warnings last night either kept people off the road or people are driving more cautiously," Bornhorst said.
