In a matter of just two hours, area Toys for Tots officials collected roughly 200 toys at Market Place in Byron Dec. 8.
From 8 to 10 a.m., residents and visitors dropped off everything from dolls to Nerf footballs in an effort to make the holidays brighter for those in need.
For the past several weeks, Laser 101.7, Fox Country 102.5 and the United States Marine Corps have teamed up to collect toys at locations throughout Rochester and its surrounding areas.
Collection points included Whistle Binkies both north and south and Sam's Club.
Julie Jones, host of Julie Jones in the Morning on Fox Country, said the Byron site collected more toys for 2012 than it has in each of the past two years.
"It's really grown," Jones said. "I'm really thankful for all the people in the Byron area for being so supportive."
Local businesses joined in the cause as well, including Market Place, First Alliance Credit Union and the Bears Den. Those businesses donated prizes for drawings held throughout the Byron drive.
As far as donations go, the sheriff's association, represented by Deputy Dean Thompson and Deputy Jay Clemens, alone brought in five bags of toys.
Jones said the toys are distributed with the help of organizations around the area, including Christmas Anonymous.
Christmas Anonymous, based out of Rochester, is a 100 percent volunteer organization, whose sole mission "is to help families and people in need in Olmsted County have a wonderful Christmas."
