When Jennifer Collazo returned home from work on June 24, she yelled for her dogs and none of the three came to her calls. She said Mara, one of her three rescued mastiffs was always the first to come when she called, but she didn't.
Collazo began walking the three-acre fenced in property looking for the dogs. She eventually found Lucy and Luther, but still no Mara. As she continued walking in a wooded area, she heard flies buzzing and that's when she found Mara dead, with three bullet holes - one in her leg, one on top of her head and another that had taken off half of her face.
Mara had been shot inside Collazo's fenced in property. "We had a deputy out here and he said that she landed right where she was shot because there was no way she could have moved after being shot three times," she said.
The deputy looked for shell casings but didn't find any.
She said she believes she knows who did it, as that person has threatened the lives of her dogs before but she said they can't prove it.
"We just want justice for Mara," she said. "She was only eight months old, she didn't deserve this. We rescue mastiffs to give them a good life. To think that she died such a horrible death where she was supposed to feel safe, it's just unbearable to think about."
