istoric Mantorville will offer glimpses of the good old days and celebrate the past during Stagecoach Days this Saturday and Sunday, June 30 and July 1.
The Mantorville Opera House is celebrating its 100th year with two shows and a cake reception. At 1 p.m. thespians in training, Melodrama Camp kids aged 5 to 8, will perform a short melodrama at the Opera House. The Mantorville Restoration Association (owner/caretaker of the Opera House) will host a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. The rumor is that a sculpted cake of the Opera House will be served! Following the reception Mantorville Theatre Company's adult actors will perform "Mantorville Men and Ladies of Leisure" or "The Villain's Name was Greed" at 7:30 p.m. The play is an adaptation of the first melodrama produced by MTC.
Several new horse-related activities are also planned. Saturday's activities will include a Draft Horse Pull at 1 p.m. Other Saturday activities include a Costume Show at 1 p.m. on the music stage and a homemade Pie Baking Contest judged by local "dignitaries" with sign-up at 11 a.m., judging at 11:30 a.m. and the auction at 2 p.m.
The Mantorville Saloon is hosting a Bean Bag Tourney at 3 p.m. with sign-up at 2 p.m.
Model T trucks and a Mogul 1917 10-20 Tractor will be on display all day Saturday.
Plein Air artists will be out and about all over town on Saturday painting. They will pick a spot that inspires them and paint a piece of Mantorville. Come see the masters at work. Their finished pieces will be judged and on display Sunday at the Mantorville Art Guild.
Also at the Art Guild on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be a book signing, Hank Thorson (Terry Eckstein) has written his second book.
Old time music will be the theme on the music stage Saturday with Jeani Driscol from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; an Accordion Band from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Kalvin Stern from 1:30 to 2 p.m.; Root River Jam from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
For a more contemporary sound Hairmetal Radio will perform at the Mantorville Saloon starting at 8:30 p.m.
Sunday will feature a vintage baseball game at 1 p.m. at the Old School Ball Field. If you would like to join the Rochester Rooster team, contact email@example.com, they'll sign you up and give you a vintage-style uniform!
Sunday musical entertainment will be Nancy Tobiason from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Kalvin Stern from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Activities scheduled for both days include a carriage and cutter display, woodcarvers and wood turners, weaving, tomahawk-roping-archery, children's games, stationary gas engines, a maypole, RideAbilty horse rides, miniature horses, a blacksmith and fast draw demonstration and contest. The Kasson-Mantorville Lions will host their Rubber Duck Regatta in the Zumbro River.
And, of course, there is food from Triple T BBQ, Omar's and Gyro's. Plus ice cream sandwiches and strawberry shortcake.
Horse lovers will want to come to Mantorville for Stagecoach Days, Riverside Park will be full of them. You will be able to watch the big and powerful steeds pull their weight on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
If you'd like to sit in the saddle of a gentle mare RideAbility will be offering reign-led horse rides Saturday and Sunday, there will be a charge.
Miniature horses, trained as therapy animals, will be charming visitors, doing tricks and available for petting.
