Triton Business Professionals of America (BPA) member Jessica Barajas made history recently as the first Triton BPA member to ever place in the top 10 at nationals. Barajas, along with McKenna Jennings, Leah Pflaum, Kayce Redican and Olivia Zill, all won trips to and participated in the National Leadership Conference in Dallas on May 9-13.

Barajas placed 10th for her work in Promotional Photography, while Jennings placed 14th in Digital Media Production.

Triton's other competitors all placed within the top 50% of their competitions (Pflaum- 21st in Database fundamentals, Redican- 25th in Network Administration and Zill- 31st in Integrated Office Applications), making for a solid performance all-around.

"We were all so excited when we found out Jessica placed in the top 10 and got to see her go up on stage during the Grand Awards since that's never happened before," said Triton BPA advisor Rebecca Goossens.

"I couldn't stop smiling and saying, 'Oh my gosh!' And then, we found out how well the other girls did, and it's just really a huge honor for all of them and for Triton to be recognized on that scale."

Approximately 8,000 students, advisors and guests from across the United States participated in the 52nd National Leadership Conference, a culmination of the hard work and effort put in by members throughout the year.

Conference activities included general sessions with keynote speakers, business meetings, leadership workshops, contests, election of national officers and tours of Dallas, Fort Worth and other Texas sights and attractions.
