Lois Lepp of Dodge Center has been taking care of children for 30 years and this week she is being honored as the Dodge County Childcare Provider of the Year.
Lepp said she worked in daycare when the family was living in Windom and when they moved to Dodge Center in 1982 she learned she could be licensed as a daycare provided. Since she wanted to be home when her own children were younger, she decided to do daycare in her home and continued with that until 1996 when she took a five year break, she said.
During the five years she worked other jobs, including at JoAnn Fabrics and Walmart. But when her oldest grandchild was born she decided it was time to get back into the childcare business. She has two grown children, she said, and five grandchildren.
"I consider myself blessed I could take care of all five grandchildren," she said.
Her daycare center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., she said. She provides the children with lunch snacks.
