Hayfield's fifth grader Breanna Subbert, better known as "B," daughter of Dave and Yvonne Subbert went to Oklahoma City to compete in the United States Marine Corps Girls Folkstyle Nationals.
Breanna competed in the 85 pound weight class. She won her first match against a girl from Colorado with a pin in 39 seconds. In her second match she competed against a girl from Oklahoma winning this match 10 to 0.
In her third match Breanna wrestled a girl from Oregon. She slipped up and ended up getting pinned. In her fourth match, she wrestled a girl from Arizona and lost a very close match by two points. In her fifth match she wrestled a girl from Georgia and ended in the loss column.
Breanna was in a 15-man bracket and placed sixth which earned her All-American status.
Breanna has been coached by Chad Shilson and Jason Elsmore from Minnesota Storm and has been attending practice at Augsburg.
Wrestling is a very tough sport both mentally and physically and this young girl has been doing it for years, and all her hard work and dedication are paying off. People are very proud of her! It is a big accomplishment.
We are starting to see more and more girls wrestle and it is just as fun and amazing to watch their abilities and knowledge show on the mat. The sport not only gives experience in competition but also instills life lessons in our children.
"B" is one tough kid and has brought lots of pride to Hayfield with her hard work. If she sticks with it Breanna will be a force to be reckoned with! Great job "B," I'm proud of you. Keep going and remember the left is the right way!
