Artificial Christmas trees have become more popular in recent years. Some folks prefer the convenience of using the same tree over and over, without the risk of falling needles.

Others, however, like Lions member Don Huston, prefer a real tree.

"I like it," he said. "It's just cool to have a real tree in the house."

And Byron area residents are in luck.

For 2017, the Lions continue its tradition of selling live trees, now in its 16th year, on the lot next to Otto's Bakery, 513 Frontage Road NW.

This year's varieties include Fraser, Balsam, Canaan, Scotch Pine and White Pine and measure six to nine feet tall.

Prices range from $26-$85 and include free disposal during the first week of January.

The trees, all 220 of them, are fresh from the Comstock Farm in Wisconsin.

"They even smell fresh," Huston said. "They're the best trees we've ever had."

The lot opened Nov. 20 and is open daily Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until 8 p.m. until supplies last.

"We just sold a bunch today," said Huston, the day after Thanksgiving. "The weather's just perfect, and people are taking them away."
