11/21/2017 3:08:00 PM Local students learn about 'STEAM' jobs

Although it may have sounded like a career fair it was really quite different.
Students from Byron, Kasson-Mantorville and Triton joined those from a number of other area schools last week at Rochester Community and Technical College for a look at the many types of jobs available to students without leaving southeastern Minnesota.
The event was the STEAM Summit, sponsored by the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Design and Math.
The purpose, said Sam Gill, Workforce Development and Education coordinator of the Rochester Chamber and STEAM organizer, is to give students a chance to learn about the type if jobs and training that is available to them locally.
